Research has found that alcohol and drugs are significant factors in the commission of many crimes and are involved in the following: 78% of violent crimes, 83% of property crimes, 77% weapon offenses and 77% of probation or parole violations.

A recent study compared the brain scans of teens who consume alcohol heavily with the scans of teens that don't. The study found damaged nerve tissue in the brains of the teens that drank. This damage negatively affects attention span in boys, and girls' ability to comprehend and interpret visual information.
Women who drink heavily and regularly are at a much greater risk for liver damage than men, even if they drink less or drink for a shorter period of time.
