  • Much medical research has indicated that excessive use of alcohol can break down heart muscle and cause a condition that is referred to as cardiomyopathy; this information can be extremely useful to individuals who are heavy drinkers and have a family history of heart disease.
  • Heavy bouts of drinking can result in an individual experiencing a condition that is commonly referred to as a"hangover", which may include headache, nausea, shakiness, and sometimes vomiting. This condition is due partly to alcohol poisoning and partly to the body's reaction to withdrawal from alcohol. There is currently no effective cure for this condition beyond refraining from heavy alcohol consumption.
  • The University of Harvard's Health Professionals Follow up Study of 44,000 males indicated that males who drank alcohol moderately, had up to a 37% reduction in coronary artery disease.
